Endometriosis

Endometriosis is a common disease where tissue similar to the lining of the womb grows outside it in other parts of the body and the most common symptom is pelvic pain. This pain often is the type that puts life on hold around or during a person’s period. However other symptoms are variable and this makes it difficult to get diagnosed.

Research suggests that there can be a delay in diagnosis of up to 6.5 years because of the variability of symptoms.  It can impact fertility for some but not for all.

Dr Kiran Vanza – Consultant Obstetrician/Gynaecologist at Femina has a special interest in advanced laparoscopic surgery for the purposes of diagnosing endometriosis much earlier and therefore being able to remedy appropriate treatments in a more timely manner.

Our specialist clinicians at Femina are able to provide comprehensive consults where the time is taken to adequately hear your story and to gather your history of symptoms so as to offer you more expedient diagnoses and treatment options.

Pelvic pain is very common in women and people assigned female at birth, at some time in their life- yet it is a condition that is poorly understood and often not recognised because it does not show on scans or at an operation. These hormone imbalances can lead to symptoms such as excessive facial and body hair, pimples and weight gain. It may also increase the risk of developing a range of other health conditions as you age such as type 2 diabetes and heart disease.
